Out through the courtyard gate
Free Roam: eight browser games worth your evening
A music grid, a route across the map, a word you find by meaning, a letter board, old photographs, a jar of tiny water life, draughts and a drawing game. Every one is free to try, runs in a browser and links straight to its maker's own site.
We wrote each review after playing, and checked the facts on the official sites on 6 November 2026: what it costs, whether it shows adverts, if you need an account, who you might meet there, and where a sitting naturally ends.
The compass: what suits tonight?
Answer three quick questions and the compass lights the games that fit, with a first move and a stopping point for each. It works on this page only and remembers nothing.
Every game below fits "either, anything, up to 45 minutes". Narrow it down above.
The eight
Faded cards do not fit your compass answers; nothing is hidden or ranked.

How Free Roam chooses
- Nobody pays to be here. There are no sponsored places and no affiliate links: a click on an official link earns us nothing.
- Every game is free to start and runs in a web browser.
- We lean towards games that wind down on their own, games that go at a gentle speed and games you share with people you already know, and we say plainly where each one tries to keep you longer.
- Nothing is embedded. We link to the official site and you play there, under the maker's own terms and privacy policy.
- The pictures are drawn for us, never taken from the games' artwork or logos.
Before you click out
Every link leads to the maker's own website, in a fresh tab. Some of these games show adverts, sell an optional subscription or let you chat with strangers, and each review says which. Age terms vary from game to game, and we list them where the maker states one.
