Accessibility at Emberdorne

We want every chamber and page to be usable by everyone we can reach. Here is what we have done and what we know still needs work.

Our aim

Our target is level AA of WCAG 2.1, the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. We test with a keyboard, with screen readers and at small screen sizes.

What works today

  • Every chamber can be played with a keyboard: stakes, buttons, gems, cards, gates and heats are real buttons.
  • Results are announced in plain words to screen readers, including what came back against the stake.
  • Text and controls meet AA colour contrast on the dark and light parts of the site.
  • Calm mode switches off every animation, and the site respects your device's reduced-motion setting.
  • Pages use headings, landmarks and a skip link, and work when zoomed to 200 percent.

Known limits

  • The reel and gem pictures carry names for screen readers, but following a whole reel grid by ear is slow; the message line under the game summarises each result.
  • Ember Steps shows many cards at once, which is hard on very small screens; turning the phone sideways helps.
  • Free Roam links to other sites whose accessibility we do not control.

Pauses and timing

Nothing on Emberdorne is timed against you. There are no countdowns, and every round waits for you to press the next button.

Report a barrier

If a page or a chamber stops you, email hello@emberdorne.co.uk or use Write to us, naming the page, your device and any assistive tools you rely on. You should hear back within two working days.

Enforcement

If you are not happy with our reply, the Equality Advisory and Support Service can advise on accessibility rights in Great Britain.

Technical notes

The site uses standard HTML, CSS and plain JavaScript with no frameworks, no web fonts and no third-party scripts. Pages work without JavaScript for reading; the games need it.
